Cessna AircraftInnerLink helped Cessna continue selling planes in Europe by adapting Cessna's operations manuals for five aircraft models.
Situation: Cessna Aircraft Company learned that the JAA (European Joint Aeronautical Authority) required a single, comprehensive manual to ship with each model of airplane, rather than the several manuals Cessna currently provided.
Solution: InnerLink dedicated a team to work with Cessna's publications and IT staff to compile the flight information for each model. Next InnerLink introduced the idea of creating an electronic manual using XML so that each manual could be more easily updated or modified in the future. InnerLink and Cessna collaborated to create a system of electronic manuals that automated the validation, organization, and formatting of the files for JAA requirements.
Benefit: Cessna was able to deliver airplanes in Europe by complying with the JAA's format requirements. More importantly, Cessna now uses XML for all of its U.S. and international flight manuals, freeing them from dependence on any proprietary software platform and allowing both print and interactive electronic manuals to be created from a single set of files that may be easily updated.
